Alex & James’ Wedding at River Cottage HQ

March 9, 2015

Alex & James’ humanist wedding was held at the now, very famous, River Cottage HQ. The couple wanted to create a relaxed day for everyone to enjoy. Alex has always been drawn to simple styles rather than elaborate ones, so her natural choices along the way really created the style of the wedding. Alex explains: “The venue of course had a big influence on the style of our day, I wanted to be sympathetic to the surroundings to create a natural feel, so nothing looked out of place in the beautiful country surroundings and the rustic barn. For example, I didn’t have a colour theme, I kept it to natural colours with white and cream and the bridesmaids in pale blush pink. The decorations of the gypsophila flowers, the hessian and lace runners and bunting and wild flowers on the table with a variety of colours, made an informal atmosphere which we wanted.”

Alex tried on 15 dresses before she found “the one”. The dress had a beautiful neckline, pearl beading, silk covered buttons at the front to add detail and a gorgeous flowing silk skirt. The wedding was held outside and was one of the most beautiful and personal weddings I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Alex admits that she is animal obsessed and had to have have her family dog, Max, be a part of the ceremony. He delivered the ring perfectly, a true professional!

When asked to part with some words of wisdom for my future brides, Alex revealed: “On the day I really enjoyed being ready in my dress 45 mins before I had to actually leave for the ceremony. It gave me a chance to feel relaxed in my dress and of course enjoy and treasure a glass of champers with the bridesmaids, the last as a single lady!” As a photographer it allows for plenty of time for pretty portraits before the ceremony which is a double bonus!

To Mr & Mrs P: What a totally gorgeous couple you are….and so perfectly suited! Thank you so much for letting me share your day and allow me to document such a fabulously personal, elegant, nature-inspired, canine-enriched, love-filled day!
